Someone Changed My Life
Jason, killed by a drunk driver April
6, 1982
I
never knew the true meaning of the words,
"someone changed my life", until
my
first-born and only son, Jason, entered my
life on Monday, October 17, 1977 at
9:10 pm. Jason had blonde hair, blue eyes
and was simply beautiful. When I
held him in my hands and wrapped my arms around
his little body and kissed him,
it was at that very moment I knew what the
true meaning of love and life was all
about. Jason showed me what motherhood, unconditional
love, tenderness,
forgiveness and what a whole lot of patience
meant.
Then
on Tuesday, April 6, 1982 at 7:30 pm, I was
again reminded of the words,
"someone changed my life", when
a drunk driver killed Jason. As the tragic
crime
unfolded I would learn that the drunk driver
was my then-husband and Jason's
father. I could not believe the very person
that told his son everyday, I love you
and I will always protect you, was the person
to kill him. This left me only to face
life in a fog of darkness with no smile, but
tears on my face.
The
year 1991 was a reminder again of "someone
changed my life". At this time I
met Pat Larson and the wonderful people of
AAIM. I am grateful for the many
years working with AAIM. This time has allowed
me to forgive, grow and to look
at my life and people in a different light.
I am blessed to take a negative and turn
it into a positive to educate, save a person's
life and give my son a voice through
me.
Many
years ago I wondered why this happened to
me. Today I know why
"someone changed my life".
God
Bless You,
