Erects Billboard in Memory of DUI Victims
|
AAIM
teamed up with soccer players, Kristine Lilly
and Debbie Keller, and JJAM Session to
heighten public awareness about the dangers
of intoxicated drivers on our roads. A billboard
featuring the faces of four innocent teen victims
with the message that "God Didn't Take Them.
A Drunk Driver Did" was created. Three of the
victims, Jenni Anderson, Jennifer Roberts and
Alli Matzdorf were killed in the 1997 Waubonsie
Valley High School homecoming crash and the
fourth victim, Michelle Wright, was killed while
attending Denver University.
The
billboard was displayed at I-294 & Lawrence
Avenue, near O'Hare airport. Thousands of motorists
were reached with this message. The billboard
was placed in Naperville during December to
coincide with the holiday season and to remind
the public about National Drunk and Drugged
Driving Awareness month. This billboard has
been posted around the Chicagoland area.
JJAM Session was a fundraiser soccer clinic
organized by Judy Keller and Betsy DeLange and
held in memory of the four Naperville teens
killed in DUI crashes. Judy Keller was the girls
soccer coach at Waubonsie Valley High School.
Proceeds from the soccer clinic went towards
the purchase of the billboard near O'Hare. AAIM
raised the funding for the billboard in Naperville.
Kristin Lilly is a member of the 1999 U.S. Women's
Soccer World Cup team that defeated China. Debbie
Keller was the second-leading scorer on the
1998 U.S. Women's Soccer National Team. Lilly
and Keller were deeply moved by the DUI crashes
and did not want the lives of Jennifer, Jenni,
Alli and Michelle forgotten.
