The
Crowley Family 2002 Recipient of Sheila Forsner
Award
On
August 25, 1988, 2 year-old Billy Crowley was
hit by an impaired driver, leaving him a quadriplegic
and killing his mother, stepfather and unborn
sister. After extensive nursing care and therapy
costing hundreds of thousands of dollars, and
with the support from family and friends, Billy
has grown into a young man who has made a difference.
In 1992, Bill was named poster child for the
American Trauma Society, being selected over
many other severely injured children. He was
flown to Washington to meet President Bush.
Most recently he was chosen regional winner
of a scholarship for Kohl's Department Stores'
"Kohl's Kids Who Care" contest.
Bill, his father and mother have volunteered
to speak at AAIM's Victim Impact Panels for
the last ten years. These panels are presented
to DUI offenders in hopes that they will not
repeat this crime. Studies have shown that these
panels have indeed reduced recidivism. The Crowley
Family often spoke on panels with Sheila. Bill's
message to DUI offenders is strong, "Don't drink
and drive."
The Crowley's continuous support and life-saving
efforts make them a worthy recipient of this
Award. AAIM salutes this wonderful family.
