Walk 5k for Caitlin
The 10th Anniversary “Walk 5k for Caitlin” will be held June 15, 2013 in Elgin. The walk is held in memory of Caitlin Weese (see her story) who was struck by a drunk driver just 8 days before her high school graduation at Larkin High School in Elgin. She died on May 24, 2003 from internal injuries. Proceeds will be awarded to a scholarship fund in Caitlin’s name and also to AAIM’S Victim Services Program. This year will be the last and final walk hosted by Caitlin's family. "We are very thankful to the many volunteers, family and friends who have helped support us all these years. We believe we have reached our goal to make the scholarship fund in Caitlin's memory self-sustaining, and feel it's only fitting to conclude the final walk on what would have been Caitlin's 28th Birthday, Saturday June 15" said a family spokesperson. This year's 10th Anniversary walk will fall on what would have been Caitlin's 28th Birthday, June 15th.
A drunk driver killed Caitlin Weese in May of 2003. One week before graduating from Larkin High School in Elgin and just three weeks before her 18th birthday.
On September 4, 2004, hundreds of family, friends and neighbors attended the first annual 5K Walk held in Elgin in memory of Caitlin. The walk has been a huge success over the years thanks to many family, friends and volunteers that have helped support it and make it a huge success.
