Driving under the influence of cannabis is illegal and dangerous, even though many people only associate DUIs with alcohol. Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists (AAIM) Executive Director Rita Kreslin, who lost her son in a marijuana-related crash, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Executive Director Erin Doherty warn that cannabis slows reaction time, affects perception, and impairs a driver’s ability to respond safely. Modern marijuana is far more potent than in the past, with some edibles and concentrates reaching up to 95% THC, and edibles can cause delayed, unpredictable impairment. Both organizations stress the importance of educating young people about these risks and reminding them never to ride with an impaired driver.
