Illinois Unites to Combat Distracted Driving
Throughout April 2025, communities across Illinois came together to spotlight the dangers of distracted driving and reinforce the importance of staying focused behind the wheel. With coordinated efforts from the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office, AAIM (Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists), law enforcement agencies, and local governments, the state took bold steps to save lives and change behaviors.
“One Road, One Focus” Campaign
Led by the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office, the “One Road, One Focus” campaign introduced several new initiatives designed to reach young drivers. A key component is a new mandatory video requirement for all student drivers applying for a license—ensuring they learn about the real dangers of distracted driving before ever getting on the road.AAIM participated in the statewide press conference, emphasizing the importance of education and responsibility. The campaign aims to reach more than 165,000 high school students across Illinois this year through videos, social media outreach, and enhanced law enforcement partnerships.
AAIM’s “Are You InTEXTicated?” Contest
AAIM continued its prevention and education efforts with the 6th Annual “Are You InTEXTicated?” Campaign, inviting students to submit creative videos that highlight the risks of texting and driving. The 2025 winners are:
🥇 1st Place: Renee Saludar, Tinley Park High School
🥈 2nd Place: Alyssa Bonner, Huntley High School
🥉 3rd Place: Ian Williams, Stevenson High School
Each year, these student-led messages reach thousands of peers, proving that youth voices are powerful advocates for safer roads. View the campaign at AAIM Prevention & Education.
Community & Enforcement Efforts
Beyond education, enforcement remained a central focus.
Lake County joined the statewide initiative, reminding residents that 58 fatalities in Illinois last year were linked to distracted driving.
From April 10–14, law enforcement agencies across the state increased patrols targeting distracted driving.
Rockford police issued 395 citations, including 200 for hands-free law violations, while Luzerne County—ranking sixth in distracted driving offenses—continued its crackdown.
Public awareness campaigns, including billboard messaging and social media outreach, reinforced the message that distraction can be deadly.
A Shared Commitment to Safer Roads
Illinois’ April initiatives demonstrate what’s possible when education, enforcement, and community engagement work together. From classrooms to highways, every effort contributes to a single, life-saving goal: keeping all drivers focused and ensuring “One Road, One Focus—Safety for All.”
